Post Graduate Diploma in English Language Teaching

This online/distance education program is designed for certified English language teachers seeking post graduate level additional qualifications in specialized areas of English language teaching, professional development, and an opportunity for conducting field research on a topic of special interest.

The program is comprised of five 25-hour online English language teaching (ELT) specialization course selections plus a guided Research Paper on a current ELT research topic.

Program Overview:

Participants must choose five (5) online courses from the following options:

  • Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
  • Teaching Business English
  • Teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP)Teaching English Grammar
  • Teaching English Pronunciation
  • Teaching English for Travel and Tourism
  • Teaching IELTS Preparation
  • Teaching TOEFL Preparation
  • Technology for Teachers

Upon completion of the five selected online courses participants will then be required to submit a guided Research Paper on a current ELT topic of interest within 90 days. The research paper not only provides an academic opportunity to conduct field research on a topic of special interest but also creates a portfolio exemplar for ELT professionals to then later have their work published, submitted to ELT journals and industry publications, submission for presentation at TESL/TESOL conferences etc.

How the program works:

All online courses have any time start dates, are fully supported by an online instructor, and allow participants to go at their own pace. Course evaluation consists of required online quizzes and optional reflective journal entries. The online courses can be accessed from anywhere with an Internet connection, including mobile devices and tablets. Sound is required at times, as courses contain some video content. The program is asynchronous, fully online, self-directed, and you can start any time. The research paper is guided by subject matter expert faculty upon completion of all the online course modules. Participants have up to one year to complete the program or request an extension. Upon completion of the program the official transcript and diploma will be scanned and emailed to you within one week, and then the original transcript and the diploma with the gold seal of the college are mailed to you. This program is accessible and deliverable worldwide. 

Admission Requirement/Prerequisite: 

Proof of completion of an accredited TESL, TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA program from a recognized college or university, OR professional TESL certification by TESL Canada, TESL Ontario, or an International TESOL association.
