Module 1: Personal Care and Hygiene Support

Emphasis is placed on recognizing individual needs, preventing skin breakdown, and supporting clients’ physical and emotional well-being through compassionate, person-centred care.

Module 2: Nutrition and Meal Preparation

This module teaches Home Support Workers (HSWs) the fundamentals of nutrition and safe meal support for clients in home and community settings. Participants learn to plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals that respect medical, cultural, and personal dietary needs while promoting client choice and independence. Emphasis is placed on food safety, hygiene, and compassionate feeding techniques that maintain dignity and enhance overall health and well-being.

Module 3: Assisting with Medications

This module provides participants with a clear understanding of how to support clients who self-administer medications safely. It introduces commonly used medications and their general purposes, highlights potential risks and safety considerations, and explains the importance of accurate documentation and effective communication.

Module 4: Mobility and Transfers

This module explains safe methods for transferring, walking support, and using mobility aids such as walkers, canes, and wheelchairs. It emphasizes identifying and reducing home hazards, promoting client independence, and responding appropriately to prevent injuries and maintain safety.

Module 5: End-of-Life and Palliative Care

This module helps Home Support Workers understand the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that occur in the final stages of life. Participants learn how to provide comfort, manage pain through non-medical strategies, and support clients and families with empathy and respect. The course also highlights cultural sensitivity, grief awareness, and self-care to help HSWs provide compassionate end-of-life care.
