Session 1
This session provides a comprehensive foundation for individuals preparing to teach in International Language programs. Participants examine the role of the International Languages Instructor, key principles of first- and second-language acquisition, and the developmental and instructional differences between K–8 and secondary learners. Emphasis is placed on practical, research-informed strategies that respond to learners’ ages, cognitive development, prior language exposure, literacy skills, interests, and levels of linguistic proficiency while promoting participation, communication, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive, developmentally appropriate language-learning environments.
